We got up early on March 24th to host the first official Connection Day at the Center for Health Equity and kick off this monthly event series. We had nearly 60 community members join us to connect with our team, connect with each other, and connect with ideas that advance racial equity.

A group hug at the Center

Connection Days are monthly events designed to create space for the community to network, collaborate, and come up with ideas together. This first event was titled “How We Co-Create” and we invited folks to connect with the Center team and other people interested in and doing equity work in this community. Kyandra Darling and Carrie Hepburn-Brown took the lead hosting this event and, after welcoming everyone into the space, Kyandra shared more about how to host an event at the Center and what that process looks like. After that, there were three facilitated small group conversations, plus countless casual connections, and a big group photo.

We're planning to host a Connection Day once a month. Sometimes they'll have a theme or a specific topic of discussion, but all community members who want to do equity work are welcome, no matter their area of interest.

The next Connection Day is April 25th and we'll be focusing the conversation and connections on mental health and well-being for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). Whether you work in the mental health space or not, your perspective and ideas are welcome and we hope you keep showing up to connect.
